About 22,000 laborers and 1,000 elephants completed the construction in 22 years. This epitome of love was entirely built using white marble (brought from every part of India and central Asia).
The construction was completed in the year 1653 and included an expenditure of 40 million rupees approx. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and has been enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Arjumand Bano Begum, popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal. -
